Water Safety Tips:
- Please always wear your life-jacket.
- Dress in layers, wear wool. Mornings and evenings are often cool and you’ll be on water.
- Wear water friendly shoes for wading.
- Stay in your boat. If you capsize, don’t panic, be sure you have your vest on! If you’re a strong swimmer, attempt to get the canoe righted and if possible drag it to a place you can reach the bottom, if you’re not a strong swimmer stay with the boat. If the boat sinks, swim to shore but discard boots or heavy clothing, they will drag you under and tire you out. If you can reach the bottom, drag the canoe to shore and flip it to empty it. Try and recover any gear you can without endangering yourself.
- Please leave plants and wildlife undisturbed, your “selfie” is not more important than an animals health.
- Most of the land is privately owned, respect owners rights.
